Sleep Apnea Treatment – The Guide to Finding the Best Sleep Apnea Treatment for You
A New Sleep Apnea Treatment is Available!
A common sleep apnea treatment is Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. CPAP treatment consists of having the patient wear a mask and air pump that builds pressure to keep a continuous supply of air flowing into the lungs. While the mask and air pump are somewhat of a hassle, this method effectively treats sleep apnea.
Uvulopalatopharngoplasty, or UPPP, is a fairly new method of treating sleep apnia. This method involves the surgical removal of excess tissues from around the air passage and throat. The downside to this method is that it requires surgery and doesn’t always solve the problem.
Laser-Assisted Uvulopalatoplasty is Another Option for a Sleep Apnea Treatment
A procedure that is similar to UPPP but less invasive is laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty. This out-patient procedure uses a carbon dioxide laser to remove portions of the palate and tonsils in order to allow the patient to breathe freely at night. It only requires a local anesthetic, and can be finished in 3 to 5 treatments at a doctor’s office. Yet another method of treating sleep apnea is somnoplasty, or RFVTR. Radiofrequency volumetric tissue reduction is a fairly new technique that involves the transmission of radiofrequency signals into the palate, causing it to shrink. A needle is inserted beneath the upper layer of cells, heating the tissue beneath it, which is destroyed and reabsorbed into the body.
Finding a Sleep Apnea Treatment Can Save Your Life!
The Repose system, also known as the tongue suspension method, is a 20-minute long surgical procedure done under complete anesthesia at a local hospital. A suture is run through the tongue and attached to a titanium screw placed into the jawbone, lifting the tongue away from the throat. This surgery requires a one to two week healing time, making it a less attractive option than most. As you can see, there are multiple treatment options available for those suffering from sleep apnea. If you’re afraid you may have sleep apnea, consult with your local physician before your symptoms get worse. It could be the difference between life and death if you don’t look for a sleep apnea treatment soon.
